Business Model:

State Collection Service, Inc. is a debt collection agency for the healthcare industry. It provides early out and bad debt services for healthcare providers across the nation.

State Collection was started in 1949 by Hilding Haag, father of current CEO Tom Haag. The elder Haag was a Swedish immigrant who started another collections company, Wisconsin State Auditors, in 1949. But Haag quickly sold his interest to his then-partner Howard Stark.

In 2008, State Collection merged with a Minnesota collections business called Protocol Financial Service, Inc.

* Ranking determined by the overall number of debt collection complaints to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) as of year-end 2015 and should be considered in context of company size and/or market share. See the CFPB debt collection complaint database in real-time here
