Business Model:

Tenet HealthCare is a publicly traded, investor-owned corporation specializing in health services. It operates 84 hospitals, 20 short-stay surgical centers, over 400 other out-patient centers plus nine facilities in the United Kingdom.

Tenet was founded in 1967 by three attorneys under the name National Medical Enterprises in Los Angeles. The name changed to Tenet in the mid-1990s. In 2014 Tenet started a national network of urgent care facilities under the name MedPost Urgent Care.

In 2008, Tenet founded Conifer Health Solutions, which operates 300 hospitals. Syndicated Office Systems, LLC, d/b/a Central Financial Control is the collection agency for Conifer.

In 2013, Tenet acquired Vanguard Health Systems.

Tenet offered a $238 million settlement in a whistleblower lawsuit alleging that four Tenet hospitals in Georgia had a kickback scheme for referrals from prenatal clinic serving mostly uninsured patients.
