Because that is often how identity theft works.
An identity thief may use your real name, Social Security number, date of birth, or other identifying information when opening an account. The thief may then add contact information they control, such as a different address, phone number, or email address.
The result can be a financial record that looks partly like you and partly like somebody else.
That is exactly why finding your real information on the account does not necessarily prove that you opened it.

If the bureau keeps treating accounts you never opened as yours, call us, chat with us, or use our contact form and select Identity Theft.
