If your credit report contains accounts you never opened along with addresses, phone numbers, email addresses, or other information you do not recognize, look at the whole pattern.
The unfamiliar information may help explain how an identity thief created or used the fraudulent accounts. For example, an account you never opened may be tied to an address you never used or a phone number you have never seen.
The important issue is not one stray piece of information. It is that somebody else’s financial activity appears to have been attached to your identity.
I explain this in my blog “Why Is Someone Else’s Information on My Credit Report?”:

If you already disputed the fraudulent accounts and the bureau will not fix them, call us, start a chat, or use our contact form and select Identity Theft.
