Because banks have an enormous authority advantage.
They have fraud departments, investigators, computers, transaction records, security systems, and technical information that you probably cannot see. So when the bank confidently tells you that its investigation found no fraud, it is natural to wonder:
- “Maybe they know something I don’t.”
- “Maybe they have evidence I haven’t seen.”
- “Maybe I’m missing something.”
I see this hesitation over and over again.
But the bank sounding certain does not make its conclusion correct. Confidence and evidence are not the same thing.
