Business Model:
Cavalry Investments, LLC (“Cavalry”) is the “purchaser” of debt portfolios (a collection of debts) from banks, consumer finance companies, public utilities, and creditors in the United States. The debt types that Cavalry purchases include credit card, medical, utilities, telecom, and commercial receivables; auto deficiencies; and installment and unsecured revolving loans. Cavalry then uses its “servicer” Cavalry Portfolio Services, LLC (or Cavalry SPV) to collect on those accounts.
Cavalry Investments was founded in 1991 and is formerly known as Zirmak Investments, LP.
Andrew Zaro, Cavalry Investments’ CEO, bought a newly built home in Beverly Hills for $11 million.
Cavalry Portfolio Services was fined $175,000 for debt collection practices between 2007 and 2013. The investigation was conducted by Arizona Department of Financial Institutions.
*Ranking determined by the overall number of debt collection complaints to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) as of year-end 2015 and should be considered in context of company size and/or market share. See the CFPB debt collection complaint database in real-time here.
