That's right! As a California resident, you enjoy extra protection - not only from collection agencies, but from original creditors when they are trying to collect a debt (or even reposess a car)!

In 1977, the California legislature passed the the Rosenthal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act - or RFDCPA as it is commonly known - to mirror and supplement the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA).

What makes the RFDCPA so special, among other things, is that it can be used TOGETHER with the FDCPA to bring a lawsuit in either State or Federal Court and to effectively DOUBLE the compensation that you may be entitled to!

The RFDCPA has many other benefits, like protecting you against creditors (the FDCPA usually doesn't), protecting you against unlawful reposessions (again, the FDCPA doesn't) and protecting you against collections on debts discharged in bankruptcy.

There's More! It has special protections for victims of ID Theft AND it incorporates almost every other protection provided in the federal FDCPA.
