In 2022, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) filed a lawsuit against Lexington Law for violating the Telemarketing Sales Rule (TSR) by charging upfront fees for credit repair services without providing the promised results. Additionally, they were accused of misleading consumers about their success rates and how fast they could improve credit scores. By August 2023, they settled with the CFPB for $2.7 billion and were banned from telemarketing credit repair services for a decade.
